These are supported by textbook notes of graphite, freshly sharpened pencils, and spring flowers. Playing in the medium to full-bodied end of the spectrum, with ultra-fine tannins, a seamless, elegant texture, and outstanding length, this will compete with wine two to three times the price. Blended from lots that didn't make the grade to be in the single-vineyard wine, Hobbs's 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon Coombsville is 83% Cabernet Sauvignon, with small portions of Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot and Merlot. Matured in about 50% new French oak, it offers up hints of crushed stone and pencil shavings, plus scents of blueberries, cassis, loam and vanilla. It's medium to full-bodied and reasonably concentrated, with intense flavors and a velvety feel on the lingering finish. As far as Napa Cabs go, it's even a respectable value.

Dense and ripe but reserved in feel, with a cool cast iron note that adds a touch of restraint to the mix of blackberry and black currant preserve flavors. Juicy, with judicious toast through the tobacco and roasted alder–accented finish. Best from 2026 through 2036. 5,000 cases made.

The 2022 Cabernet Sauvignon Coombsville includes 6% Petit Verdot—"the most PV I've ever used," said Paul Hobbs—and 3% each Cabernet Franc and Merlot. Aged in 50% new French oak, the nose easily blends black cherries and cassis with mere hints of cedar and vanilla. In the mouth, the wine is full-bodied and broad-shouldered but supple. Loaded with dark fruit, the texture just turns the slightest bit coarse on the finish, like so many wines from the vintage. It's still excellent and a reasonable value in the context of Napa Cabernet Sauvignon.

The 2022 Cabernet Sauvignon (Coombsville) is a terrific wine in this vintage. It shows more forward fruit and less Coombsville savoriness than most years, but that is to be expected in 2022. Black cherry, plum, graphite, leather and spice are front and center. Clean mineral notes appear to frame the finish. The 2022 includes 7% Petit Verdot, which lends freshness.

Shows the vintage’s forward, soft and friendly fruit, with a hint of structure that keeps this stable through the finish. Açaí and blueberry notes are supported by gentle iris and ink details. Drink now through 2031. 6,950 cases made.
