Ripe berries, sweet tobacco and a hint of walnut oil on the nose, following through to a medium-bodied palate with fruit and spice-coated tannins that give a fresh, almost tangy finish. Bright and tasty now, but may settle into something even better. Try from 2023.

The 2019 Rosso di Montalcino impresses with a soothing mix of spiced herbal teas, crushed strawberries, balsam herbs and hints of smoke. Its round and silky textures wash ripe red berries and sweet spices across the senses, with contrasting hints of sour citrus and a building minerality toward the close. While a bit short, this is fresh, leaving nuances of tart black currant and licorice to linger. Tasting the 2019 Rosso from Poggio Il Castellare has me excited to taste the Brunello annata in years to come.
