Critical Acclaim

RP 95 Robert Parker's Wine Advocate 2021 vintage Jan 30, 2025

This wine gives us our first taste of the epic 2021 vintage from a producer as prolific as Produttori del Barbaresco. Bottled in April 2024, this vintage shows the immense power and complexity that likens it to 2016, another year for collectors. The 2021 Barbaresco offers medium-rich density that is transmitted both to the wine's appearance and its mouthfeel. There is black fruit, spice and a touch of nutmeg. However, the wine maintains its youthful tension and energy throughout. The tannins are chalky, fine and void of any bitterness. This is a classical expression of Nebbiolo that gives us good reason to be excited for the upcoming 2021 Barbaresco Riservas.

RP 95 Robert Parker's Wine Advocate 2020 vintage

The 2020 Barbaresco boasts an ample set of aromas with wild cherry, blue flower, sweet spice and crushed limestone. As always, the wine paints an exciting and authentic portrait of Nebbiolo, albeit with a little more richness and texture in this vintage. This is especially true in terms of the palate, where the wine offers mid-weight intensity with melting tannins. This ambitious release of 300,000 bottles is slated to hit the market in fall 2023.

WE 95 Wine Enthusiast 2021 vintage

Think of the most compelling conversation you've had - the kind that starts simply but reveals endless layers of depth. That's what this wine does. It opens with vibrant red fruits and sweet spices that feel immediately welcoming, then unfolds into something profound. The tannins are like perfectly tailored silk - they shape everything but never dominate. This is Barbaresco showing why it belongs in the pantheon of great wines. A masterclass in balance and beauty that will still be telling its story decades from now. Drink Now - 2050

SP 94 Wine Spectator 2021 vintage

A vibrant, well-defined red, offering rose, cherry, strawberry, white pepper and mineral flavors. Sleek and elegant, this firms up on the linear finish. Balanced and approachable now yet would benefit from a bit more time to knit together. Excellent length. Best from 2027 through 2040. 24,000 cases made, 7,000 cases imported.

JS 94 James Suckling 2021 vintage

An intriguing wine with aromas of potpourri, dried cherries and candied orange zest. Smoky and juicy on the palate, with firm, dusty yet ripe tannins, a full body and a long, savory finish. Drinkable now, but it has great potential for the long haul.

VN 92 Vinous 2020 vintage Oct 2023

The 2020 Barbaresco is a lovely, harmonious wine that will drink well with minimal cellaring. Forward fruit and soft curves are perhaps a bit uncharacteristic for young Barbaresco but that also make the wine very enjoyable. Juicy red cherry/plum fruit, rose petal, spice, cedar, mint and tobacco all meld together in the glass. Classicists will probably prefer other vintages, but it's hard not to like the 2020 for its charming, effusive personality. At the same time, aeration brings out greater aromatic presence and a good deal of structure, too. (Antonio Galloni)

SP 92 Wine Spectator 2020 vintage

Plum and cherry flavors are shaded by wild scrub and crisp tannins in this compact red. The balance is on the tannic side today, yet there's ample length, so give this a year or two to settle in. Best from 2026 through 2038. 36,000 cases made, 3,500 cases imported.
