Critical Acclaim

SP 98 Wine Spectator 2021 vintage March 25, 2026

There’s a core of cherry, raspberry, rose, earth and eucalyptus in this powerful yet reserved Barbaresco. Flashes of orange peel and amaro emerge as the vivid acidity kicks in. The tannins are accordingly dense, and this shuts down on the finish today. Nevertheless, there’s a majesty to this red and the sense of a thoroughbred waiting to emerge. Best from 2030 through 2050. 1,900 cases made, 900 cases imported.

JD 98 Jeb Dunnuck 2020 vintage

Boasting a deep youthful red color and a very complete nose at this early tasting, the 2020 Barbaresco Riserva Rabaja is brooding with dark aromas of ripe cherry, espresso crema, and leather, balanced with brighter highlights of red flowers, dusty earth, and fresh mint. The palate has a good deal of focus on the palate, with ripe and precise acidity, refined tannins, and a long finish. It is an impressive wine that I would encourage readers to seek out. Drink 2025-2050.

JD 98 Jeb Dunnuck 2021 vintage 4/8/2026

The 2021 Barbaresco Riserva Rabajà pours a jeweled red color and reveals layered aromatics of licorice candies, fresh cherry, redcurrant, violet, and crystalline mineral tones. Medium-bodied, it has excellent balance, with savory tobacco accents, refined red fruit, and beautifully shaped tannins. I love the structure here as well as the overall harmony of the wine. Roughly 19,431 bottles and 1,951 magnums were produced. Drink 2027-2050.

VN 97 Vinous 2020 vintage Oct 2024

The 2020 Barbaresco Riserva Rabajà is another stellar wine in this range. Dark and explosive, the 2021 possesses notable richness to match its dark, brooding personality. Black cherry, plum, leather, cloves, menthol, licorice and gravel explode onto the palate. The 2020 will require a measure of patience, but it has a ton of potential. (Antonio Galloni)

VN 97 Vinous 2021 vintage Oct 2025

The 2021 Barbaresco Riserva Rabajà is dark, powerful and explosive. That's the good news. Readers will have to be patient with this brooding, sepia-toned Barbaresco. Dark fruit, graphite, new leather, licorice, scorched earth and gravel add to an impression of muscular gravitas. The 2021 needs a bit of time in the glass to start opening, but when it does, it's magnificent.

JS 97 James Suckling 2021 vintage Tuesday, November 18, 2025

Youthful and pure, a bit austere at the moment, showing earthy minerality, dark chocolate, restrained black cherries and red currants with Earl Grey tea aromas. Full-bodied and vibrant, this has elegant, velvety tannins, refreshing acidity and stunning savoriness with almost meaty depth. The multilayered, juicy finish is full of fruit, flowers and licorice. Not easy, yet outstanding. March 2026 release. Drink or hold.

RP 95 Robert Parker's Wine Advocate 2020 vintage Jan 30, 2025

In this vintage, the Rabajà was served last in a series of nine Riservas; that's because it shows the most structure and power over a very defined and sharp mouthfeel. The Produttori del Barbaresco 2020 Barbaresco Riserva Rabajà is streamlined and tight and a wine of enormous energy. The fruit is crunchy and tight with cassis and blackberry. A pretty mineral note defines Rabajà, giving it a chalky or powdery sensations on the close. (Monica Larner)

SP 95 Wine Spectator 2020 vintage April 23, 2025

There’s breadth and depth to this red; its broad shoulders carry plum, cherry, licorice, tar, mineral and spice flavors, all backed by a layer of dense, dusty tannins. All of the components are in the right place yet need time to integrate. Best from 2028 through 2045. 1,354 cases made, 348 cases imported. (Bruce Sanderson)
