Critical Acclaim
From rockier soils on the eastern side of the valley, the 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve is 96% Cabernet Sauvignon and 4% Petit Verdot that was aged 22 months in new French oak. It's an absolutely killer bottle of wine offering pure cassis and darker currant fruits as well as textbook tobacco, Oakville iron, black olive, dark chocolate, and graphite. It's full-bodied, massively concentrated, has building tannins, flawless balance, and a great, great finish. It will probably merit an additional point or two in 5-7 years and, I suspect, will be a 30+-year wine.
The 2022 Chardonnay Rochioli Vineyard pours a bright silver/yellow hue and is electric and focused in the glass, with bright flinty reduction, lime zest, rocky earth, white pepper, ripe fresh green apples, melon, and citrus blossoms. The palate is elegant, focused, and more savory and mouthwatering, with a fresh, rounded feel. It’s a highlight for me in the range and is going to be worth checking in on over the coming 15 years.
Layered, elegant, vivid and mineral-driven, this full-bodied wine paints a distinct picture of one of Sonoma County’s oldest, most iconic chardonnay vineyards. Stone, kiwi and crisp apple notes fill the aromas, while light accents of butter and vanilla bean highlight the vibrant green apple and lime flavors. It expands on the palate and echoes for minutes in the finish. This wine is known to age well, so drink or hold. (James Suckling)
The 2022 Chardonnay Rochioli Vineyard is stunning! Sourced from vines planted in 1989, 1995 and 1998, grapes were harvested on August 22, before the Labor Day heat wave. The wine was barrel-fermented, underwent full malolactic conversion and matured for 20 months in 20% new French oak barrels. It has an intense perfume of candied peach and nectarine, honeycomb, matchstick and soaring floral aromas. The palate is satiny and expansive with concentrated, mouth-coating flavors. It’s balanced by vibrant acidity and has a tremendously long finish.
Elegant and precise, this crisp expression offers plenty to admire—apple, lemon zest and Sumo orange notes, plus an aromatic punch of yuzu, orange blossoms and sweet grass. A quiet toasted brioche detail lingers in the background, as does a savory thread of freshly grated ginger and toasted green tea hints. Drink now through 2032. 774 cases made. (MaryAnn Worobiec)
This white's impressive flavors of fresh, ripe peach and apricot are fleshy and juicy, with vibrant accents of Fuji apple, pear and grilled lemon, while the acidity gives more energy to the core. Grace notes of candied citrus zest, crunchy sea salt and fennel pollen, plus a touch of lemon basil, gain momentum on the finish. Drink now through 2039. 667 cases made. (MaryAnn Worobiec)
A creamy, delicate wine from a famous, time-tested vineyard. It shows intricate layers of lemon curd, meringue, lime zest and crisp apples on an elegant texture. It emphasizes mineral and saline flavors that expand slowly on the palate and linger in the finish. Drink now or hold.
The 2021 Chardonnay Rochioli Vineyard is bright and focused, but also understated in feel. Sweet floral and citrus notes give the 2021 lovely aromatic presence to match the wine’s understated, mid-weight personality. Bright saline tones add energy and tension throughout. Lemon peel, white pepper and crushed rocks linger. (Antonio Galloni)
