Critical Acclaim

JS 96 James Suckling 2020 vintage

This is linear and so racy with a structure and length and focused energy that takes you long and deep. It’s medium-bodied with dried strawberry, citrus and spice. Tight at the end. Classicism with transparency. Drink after 2029.

SP 94 Wine Spectator 2020 vintage

A beam of cherry and red currant courses through this racy red, revealing flashes of rose and wild herbs, with a mineral underpinning. This is persistent, with a long aftertaste that emphasizes the pure fruit. Best from 2026 through 2042. 5,833 cases made, 2,772 cases imported.

SP 94 Wine Spectator 2021 vintage

Macerated cherry and raspberry fruit is shaded by orange peel, iron and menthol flavors in this juicy red. Needs time to absorb the chewy tannins, with a mix of savory and fruity elements on the finish. Shows fine balance and length. Best from 2029 through 2048. 5,800 cases made, 5,800 cases imported.

JD 94 Jeb Dunnuck 2021 vintage

The 2021 Barolo Marcenasco pours a reflective brick red color and offers a good deal of complexity and clarity on the nose, opening to notes of preserved orange, anise, cranberries, redcurrants, and minty herbs. The palate is similarly focused, with a refreshing energy and spine of acidity, well-defined and coiled tannins, and a zesty feel through the finish. It is a lovely wine from Ratti with a lot of personality that can age gracefully and improve over the coming 15 or more years. I would love to cover more of their wines in the future.

SP 93 Wine Spectator 2019 vintage Oct 15, 2023

A firm, elegant red marked by haunting aromas of rose, cherry and spices. Supple and beautifully balanced, with strawberry and cherry flavors shaded by underbrush and white pepper. Shows fine length, with a hint of licorice. Best from 2025 through 2042. 3,823 cases imported. (Bruce Sanderson)

JD 93 Jeb Dunnuck 2019 vintage 5/4/2023

The 2019 Barolo Marcenasco is spiced and fragrant with cinnamon, fresh leather, red cherry, and clove. It is expressive through the palate, with wild berries, cedar, forest floor, and a well-balanced, ripe structure. Drink 2025–2040. (Audrey Frick)

WE 92 Wine Enthusiast 2020 vintage

Crushed raspberries and ripe black cherries dusted with sweet spices lift from the glass of this Barolo. Showcasing elegant tannins that frame the generous fruit flavors and allow the savory herbal undertones to stand tall in the glass finishing with lifted acidity. Drink Now - 2045

VN 92 Vinous 2019 vintage

The 2019 Barolo Marcenasco will delight Ratti fans. It offers up a compelling mix of sweet red-toned fruit, blood orange, mint, white pepper and cedar in a super-classic style that has not been seen here in a very long time. Medium in body and translucent, with fine balance, the 2019 is a winner.
