Critical Acclaim
A restrained and classic wine with aromas of smoke, woodland, graphite, leather, dried cherries and potpourri. Medium-bodied, this shows refined tannins, a velvety texture, crisp acidity and a chewy, dynamic finish with tension and balance. Drink or hold.
In the bottle with the black label, this is a very pretty, relatable and well-priced wine from Tuscany. Made with 100% Sangiovese, the 2020 Chianti Classico Riserva Brolio offers blueberry, plum and sweet spice thanks to 18 months of tonneaux aging. I especially appreciate the wine’s pronounced mineral signature that gives the wine a salty or savory side, which is perfect for food pairing. Some 75,000 bottles were made.
A mouthwatering version, this red delivers plum, cherry, floral, earth, olive and bay flavors. Backed by vibrant acidity and resonant tannins, leaving a long, expansive finish. Elegant and intense. Best from 2027 through 2040. 6,250 cases made, 3,500 cases imported.
A savory version, this Chianti Classico delivers green olive, tomato leaf, iron and tobacco flavors centered on a core of macerated cherry fruit. Though lean and sinewy, this is also intense and focused, with a lingering aftertaste that feels the pull of both the savory and fruity sides. Best from 2025 through 2038. 6,250 cases made, 3,500 cases imported.
In the bottle with the black label, the Barone Ricasoli 2022 Chianti Classico Riserva Brolio is approachable and accessible, with a somewhat rich texture and a little less definition in terms of aromas. You get standard dark cherry, blue flower and earthy tones, but these flavors feel a little softer in this 100% Sangiovese. The wine has good volume and depth. This is a release of 75,000 bottles.
