Critical Acclaim

JD 94 Jeb Dunnuck 2021 vintage 10/24/2023

The 2021 Zinfandel Paso Robles is all varietal and comes from the Benito Dusi Ranch in Paso Robles. It’s more medium-bodied and elegant, with classic Zinfandel notes of red and black plums, peppery herbs, cigar smoke, and sweet spices. I love its forward, seamless texture, and it has soft tannins as well as flawless balance. It’s another gorgeous 2021 from this team with so much to love. Enjoy bottles over the coming decade. (Jeb Dunnuck)

JD 94 Jeb Dunnuck 2023 vintage

The 2023 Zinfandel Paso Robles is made from 100% Zinfandel grown at Benito Dusi Ranch, the vines old and established; Ridge's first vintage was 1967. Featuring full-bodied, jammy red fruit, it is juicy, broad, and fleshy while also offering a high-toned, restrained style. A hallmark of the vineyard is its great acidity, with brightness a consistent characteristic across vintages. Round, it's not sweet but allows enough sweetness from the fruit to be lush and appealing from start to finish, spending 12 months in 15% new American oak. Drink now through 2033.

SP 94 Wine Spectator 2023 vintage

A sleek and vibrant claret-style Zin that retains a distinctive, brambly personality. Offers black cherry and raspberry flavors accented with smoked pepper and anise. Drink now through 2034. 4,500 cases made.

SP 93 Wine Spectator 2021 vintage October 15, 2023

Captures the best of Paso Robles Zinfandel, deeply structured and appealingly briary, with notes of bright cherry, brown baking spices and orange peel that finish with fleshy tannins. Drink now through 2032. 4,800 cases made. (Tim Fish)

WE 93 Wine Enthusiast 2022 vintage 10/1/2024

Blackberry, pencil shavings and peppercorn aromas show on the nose of this bottling that includes 5% Petite Sirah. The palate is energized with berry to black-plum flavors, as an underlying cigar-box spice settles into the firm structures. (Matt Kettmann)

SP 93 Wine Spectator 2022 vintage August 31, 2024

Brambly and dynamic, with cherry and raspberry flavors highlighted by briar patch, pepper and roasted anise notes. Finishes with zesty tannins. Drink now through 2034. 4,500 cases made. (Tim Fish)

JD 92 Jeb Dunnuck 2022 vintage 8/22/2024

Blended with 5% Petite Sirah, the 2022 Zinfandel Paso Robles is one of the sweeter fruited, exotic Zinfandels in the lineup. Candied strawberries, red plums, cigar, herbes de Provence, and sandalwood all define the aromatics, and it’s medium to full-bodied, with a terrific core of sweet fruit, supple tannins and outstanding length. I would drink bottles over the coming 5–7 years. (Jeb Dunnuck)

JS 92 James Suckling 2022 vintage Thursday, May 30, 2024

This full-blown, full-bodied wine is ripe and rich, oozing blackberries, black cherries and dark plums on moderate tannins. Made from the Benito Dusi Ranch. Includes 5% petite sirah. Drink now. (Jim Gordon)

VN 91 Vinous 2022 vintage Oct 2024

The 2022 Zinfandel Paso Robles is very aromatic and expressive, belying any heaviness, overripeness or heat one might expect from this warm region in a warm season. Spiced cherry, blood orange, tobacco, cinnamon and leather layer atop a tense, slightly edgy mineral core that keeps this abundantly fresh. Surprisingly, it is light on its feet, especially considering the inclusion of 5% Petite Sirah in the blend (mainly perceptible in the wine’s purplish hue), and it goes down easily. Drink it any time over the next six to eight years. (Billy Norris)

OT 91 Wine & Spirits 2021 vintage

This starts out quiet, with scents of licorice, tar and soft, dark fruit. Three days later, it’s aromatically alive, yielding scents of carob, cinnamon, five-spice and pepper, with warm, plummy Paso fruit to cushion it.

VN 90 Vinous 2021 vintage

The 2021 Zinfandel Paso Robles, from the Benito Dusi Ranch, is plump, juicy and full of Paso exuberance. Succulent red cherry/plum fruit, sweet spice, pomegranate and pipe tobacco are nicely amplified. Bright acids balance the natural raciness of the fruit admirably.
