The 2017 Mr. Evans Proprietary Red (60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot, and 10% Petit Verdot) shows the more focused, linear style of the 2017 vintage. Blackcurrants, cassis, hot asphalt, licorice, and charred meat notes all emerge from the glass of this inky colored effort, and it’s medium to full-bodied, concentrated, and powerful on the palate. Drink it any time over the coming 15–20 years or more.

The 2017 Mr. Evans Proprietary Red is blended of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 29% Merlot and 11% Petit Verdot aged in 70% new French oak. Very deep purple-black colored, it begins a little closed and broody with notions of aged beef, tapenade, truffles and underbrush, opening out to pronounced black currant cordial, baked blackberries and dried mulberries with a waft of iron ore. Medium to full-bodied, the palate reveals a generous amount of black fruit with firm, ripe tannins and bold freshness, finishing long and earthy. 600 cases produced.
