Critical Acclaim
Brilliant gold-flecked-amber in the glass, this Hungarian stunner hails from the Szt. Tamas vineyard located on one of Tokaj’s most iconic hills. It has aromas of wildflower honey, ripe peach, honeysuckle blossom, freshly sliced apricot and acacia flowers. It is an ethereal blend of Furmint, Harslevelü and Muscat. Silky smooth on entry, it offers enticing flavors of white peach, apricot preserves, honeycomb and acacia honey. It has beautiful heft on the palate with balanced acidity and crisp minerality. The elegant sweetness is perfectly foiled by bracing acidity and crispness in the finish. This is how Hungarian Tokaj Aszü wine should be made. Drink through 2045. (Jeff Jenssen)
This wine comes from one of Tokaji's most famous vineyards. It is light amber in color with heady aromas of honeysuckle, freesia, beeswax and honey. It has pleasant heft on the palate and there are intense flavors of tinned peach, clover honey and apricot conserves. It is a well-made and well-balanced wine that ends on a sweet note and makes you want to go in for another and another, sip. Drink now–2050.
Fascinating nose of spiced pears, tamarind, cloves and rock sugar. Dried osmanthus flowers, too. Syrupy and creamy, yet tangy, with bright mandarin-orange and sweet-sour tamarind notes. Exotic character. Rich at the end. 100% furmint. 3,635 bottles produced. Drink or hold.
The 2017 Tokaji Szt. Tamás 6-Puttonyos comes from red-clay topsoils in the commune of Mád. This is more backward compared to the Mézes-Mály, and very much more citrus-driven, featuring lemon peel, orange zest and crushed stone aromas; the Azsú element is more discreet. The fresh, vibrant palate is well balanced and harmonious, offering a fine bead of acidity and candied orange peel toward the finish. Edgier than Royal Tokaji’s other 2017s, and perhaps spicier on the finish, this will be fascinating to observe mature in the bottle. 3,635 bottles produced. (Alison Napjus)
The 2013 Tokaji Szt. Tamás 6-Puttonyos contains 175.6g/L residual sugar with 11.1g/L acidity. The Vouvray-like bouquet is slightly more resinous and petrolly compared to the Betsek. The palate is fresh and very well balanced, offering notes of orange cordial, peach and apricot. Very elegant in style, displaying more depth and poise on the finish than the Betsek and Nyulászó. Now this has real potential! Tasted at the Royal Tokaji Company tasting in London. (Neal Martin)
A vibrant dessert wine, with bright acidity enlivening the well-meshed mix of ripe apricot, dried white cherry, spun honey and preserved lemon. Savory hints of herb and brine are a pleasing counterpoint on the finish. Drink now through 2026. 202 cases made, 3 cases imported. (Alison Napjus)
