Producer Notes
This vintage, the blend is 85% Sangiovese, 10% Ciliegiolo, and 5% ancient co-planted varietals. Smooth, perfumed red fruit aromas lead to a red, berry and cherry palate with excellent structure and a long, elegant finish. Perfect with antipasto, pizza or pasta dishes.
Critical Acclaim
San Ferdinando's estate is spread over 150 acres in the heart of Tuscany in the area of Val di Chiana; it has been in the hands of the Grifoni family since 1998. Their vineyards occupy a little more than 22 acres and are planted with local Ciliegiolo, Sangiovese, Pugnitello, and Vermentino, and all are farmed organically. this is a blend of 85% Sangiovese, 10% Ciliegiolo, and 5% ancient co-planted varietals. The addition of the Ciliegiolo takes it up a notch on the brightness scale, making for a Chianti that is unusually light, fresh, and highly fruited.
