Critical Acclaim

WE 93 Wine Enthusiast NV vintage

The aroma entices with bold caramel and vanilla. The palate is brisk and relatively dry, despite the succulent aroma, showing vanilla and oak up front, and rounding into nutmeg, almond, vanilla and bitter orange on the finish. Versatile for cocktails, including its namesake Sazerac.

OT 91 Jim Murray’s Whisky Bible NV vintage

Firm, unambiguous rye with minimum yield and complexity. Much juicier, showing little oak interference. Almost candy-like in its sugar and spice qualities. Again, the rye dominates with minimal restraint, but at least offers several paths, the longest being slightly dry with butterscotch off-shoots. Rye perhaps at its least complicated. But horny stuff, nonetheless.

OT 88 Malt Advocate NV vintage

A very nice, youthfully clean and vibrant rye whiskey for a very affordable price. If you can find a bottle, buy it.

OT 88 Whisky Advocate NV vintage

Youthful and very lively. Bold, crisp, spices (mint, cinnamon, vanilla) are softened by soothing, sweeter notes (candied fruit, coconut, caramel, and rum notes), becoming dry, flinty, and spicy on the finish. It is very clean and polished, and it is superior to other rye whiskeys in this age range. Nicely done!

Beverage Dynamics NV vintage

Whisky Advocate NV vintage

Clean, crisp, polished mint and cinnamon spice sweetened with solid wood notes; good straight, hold its own in a cocktail. (The very different 18 year old Sazerac is a limited-release classic.)
