Critical Acclaim

SP 94 Wine Spectator 2021 vintage February 19, 2024

Alder smoke and warm earth lead the way, with a core of steeped black currant and blackberry fruit following closely behind. This is dense from start to finish, offering hints of savory, worn cedar and tar that add range and grip through the finish. Leans old school in feel. Best from 2025 through 2040. Tasted twice, with consistent notes. 795 cases made. (James Molesworth)

RP 91 Robert Parker's Wine Advocate 2019 vintage May 31, 2022

Reasonably priced for a Napa Cab, Snowden’s 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon The Ranch boasts aromas of cedar and cherries, plus delicate thyme and sage notes. It’s medium to full-bodied, plush and easy to drink, smooth and supple across the palate and silky on the finish. (Joe Czerwinski)

VN 91 Vinous 2019 vintage Jan 2022

The 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon The Ranch is elegant and nuanced, with the transparency that is typical of many of the 2019s here. This is a decidedly old-school leaning Cabernet that leans towards the more delicate end of the spectrum. (Antonio Galloni)

SP 91 Wine Spectator 2022 vintage

Mulled plum and cherry fruit is slightly muted in energy but percolates steadily alongside dried anise and sassafras hints. A flash of red tea adds range on the finish, where a slightly toothy plum skin note hangs. Overall this is less overt than the typical ’22, with some stylish character. Drink now through 2031. 961 cases made.

RP 91 Robert Parker's Wine Advocate 2022 vintage

Snowden's 2022 Cabernet Sauvignon The Ranch blends in 24% Merlot and 1% Petit Verdot. Scents of black cherries are joined by hints of vanilla, cedar and brown sugar on the nose, while the full-bodied palate shows a good bit more structure and tannin than the Merlot (as there should be), but the wine still retains a sense of elegance on the velvety, tea-tinged finish. Good value.

RP 91 Robert Parker's Wine Advocate 2021 vintage

Delicate sage and cedar shadings accent bright cherries and dark berries in Snowden’s 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon The Ranch. It’s medium to full-bodied and silky textured, with fine-grained tannins and a long, elegant finish. Not overdone in any dimension, this nicely restrained and balanced Cab finishes with a touch of mocha. Enjoy it over the next decade.

VN 90 Vinous 2021 vintage Dec 2023

The 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon The Ranch is soft, supple and full of charm. Bright acids lift a core of red-toned fruit, spice, flowers, cinnamon and mint. This mid-weight, vibrant Cabernet Sauvignon is delicious today. It should drink well for another handful of years or more. It’s a fine introduction to the range. (Antonio Galloni)
