Critical Acclaim
The 2020 Amarone della Valpolicella Classico Sant'Urbano seduces with a savory and darkly alluring blend of dried black cherries, mentholated herbs, clove and shavings of citrus-laced dark chocolate. It sweeps across the palate with textures of pure silk, showcasing stunning minerality as crisp red berry fruits cascade across a core of stimulating acidity. It finishes incredibly long, leaving a salty flourish and a bitter cocoa twang as grippy tannins frame the experience beautifully. The 2020 possesses an incredibly classic feel.
Dark cherries, blackberries, mussels, licorice, figs and some finely ground black chocolate, following through to a medium-to full-bodied palate with elegant berries and a bittersweet black-chocolate note. A refined, textbook Amarone that shows great poise and modern drinkability. From organically grown grapes. Drink or hold. (James Suckling)
There’s an exotic flair to the 2018 Amarone della Valpolicella Classico Sant’Urbano as foreign spices, dusty dried roses, red currants and blood orange hints form its bouquet. This is supple and enveloping with stimulating acidity that adds an energetic feel, as tart cherry and raspberry fruits drench the palate. Its minerality comes through in the finish, almost salty in character as grippy tannins saturate, yet the wine remains amazingly fresh. The 2018 is wonderfully balanced and potent, a total success for the vintage. (Eric Guido)
Sculpted tannins are a compact, chewy frame for this structured red, which is fleshed out nicely by flavors of chocolate-covered cherry, fig cake, cured tobacco, anise hyssop and loamy earth. The rich profile expands on the palate, opening well, yet remains fresh and focused through to the fragrant finish. Enjoy today with decanting or keep this in the cellar for a bit. Corvina, Corvinone and Rondinella. Best from 2027 through 2040. 4,000 cases made, 600 cases imported.
A compact, medium- to full-bodied red, with macerated cherry and raspberry fruit flavors underscored by hints of forest floor and brambly brush. Gains complexity from accents of coffee liqueur, mandarin orange peel and dark chocolate. Taut, well-spiced finish. Drink now through 2028. 8,000 cases made, 1,200 cases imported.
