The port-like reddish brown color is pure and bright beneath the examination lamp. The 80% abv comes reaching out of the glass and pulls me in and there's no escape but I have to say that I like the robust quality of this aroma, which is pleasantly spiced with citrus peels, herbs (cola nut, sarsaparilla, coriander, allspice, mace, cubeb and more); the second nosing pass finds the abv settled down a little, leaving the door open for earthy fragrances of wet soil, wet stone, rain forest. Entry is keenly fruity, spicy and yes, fiery but in a manner that's acceptable, even delectable; midpalate is where the flavorings shine brightest, especially the citrus, cranberry, cinnamon, tree bark, plum, cracked black pepper, paprika. Aftertaste brims with spicy flavors and bright fruity flavors. A unique rum that's a standout.
