Critical Acclaim
Mouthfilling, with a delicious gush of warmed blackberry and boysenberry compote flavors backed by licorice, bramble and sweet tapenade notes, which contrast with the fruit nicely. Features a nice buried iron spine on the finish. Best from 2024 through 2038. 500 cases made, 25 cases imported. (James Molesworth)
A well-balanced, intense, textured and lively Cote-Rotie, proposing aromas of dark cherries, smoke, dried herbs, stones and peppercorns. It’s medium-bodied with fine, firm tannins. Silky texture at the center, with a well-integrated structure framing the palate. Focused and full of verve with a fleshy character. Peppery and vivid finish with length. Try from 2026.
A dark, brooding red that unspools layers of black licorice and blackberry coulis flecked with singed spices. Sleek, with savory acidity, this shows an appealing juiciness that is quickly grounded by a racy edge and powerful pillar of iron. Best from 2026 through 2042. 350 cases made, 25 cases imported.
The 2019 Côte Rôtie Vieilles Vignes offers slightly more dark fruit and minerality as well as a more concentrated yet backward style on the palate. Full-bodied and structured, with terrific purity, it’s going to require more bottle age than the base and, but it should have two-plus decades of longevity.
