Critical Acclaim

JD 96 Jeb Dunnuck 2022 vintage 8/15/2024

Now from bottle, the 2022 Syrah Colson Canyon Vineyard is a ripe, sexy, exotic Syrah that has beautiful red and blue fruits, ground pepper, violets, spring flowers, and chalky nuances. These carry to a full-bodied Syrah with a supple, elegant mouthfeel, lots of ripe yet pure fruit, polished tannins, and a solid spine of acidity. It’s going to need 2–4 years of bottle age to show its full potential, but it’s a gorgeous Syrah that will see its 20th birthday in fine form. (Jeb Dunnuck)

JD 96 Jeb Dunnuck 2023 vintage

The 2023 Syrah Colson Canyon Vineyard comes from great vineyard (which is owned and farmed by Tensley) located in the hills above Los Olivos. Darker red and blue fruits, dried flowers, sandalwood, and peppery, spicy notes all shine here, and it’s medium to full-bodied, with a balanced mouthfeel, fine tannins, and outstanding length. This cuvée always benefits from bottle age, and I don’t expect the 2023 to be any different.

RP 95 Robert Parker's Wine Advocate 2022 vintage

The 2022 Syrah Colson Canyon Vineyard has an alluring nose of red, blue and black berries with accents of grilled game meats, forest floor and peppermint patty. The full-bodied palate is savory and deep, with chalky tannins, juicy acidity and a long finish laced with youthful cinnamon tones. It will have more to show after 3–5 years in bottle.

SP 94 Wine Spectator 2022 vintage September 30, 2024

Displaying simmering intensity at the core, this dynamic red unfurls slowly, with blackberry and blueberry flavors accented by black olive, espresso and licorice notes as this gathers tension toward medium-grained tannins. Drink now through 2035. 1,224 cases made. (Tim Fish)

VN 94 Vinous 2023 vintage

The 2023 Syrah Colson Canyon Vineyard once again shows how unique this site is. Black cherry, plum, licorice, crushed rocks, graphite, cured meats, iron and chalk are some of the many notes that grace this complex, wonderfully dynamic Syrah. There's so much going on here.

Leads with clove, leather and dark chocolate notes that meld with a vibrant, generous and herb-laced core of blueberry and plum. Offers brine and mineral details on the finish around fine tannins. Drink now through 2033. 1,800 cases made.
