Critical Acclaim
The 2023 Le 2 Ville is bright ruby in color and immediately expressive, offering aromas of floral perfume, ripe red plum, and fresh cherry. Primarily Cabernet Franc, with a small amount of Merlot, the addition of 30% Ciliegiolo plays a key role in the blend, lending lift and vibrancy. Medium to full-bodied, it’s supple yet energetic, with refined tannins and refreshing acidity that carry through the palate. Notes of pure red fruit and sweet earth give it charm and immediacy, while maintaining a clear throughline to the more structured Il Nicchio. A polished and lively wine with excellent balance to enjoy over the next 10-12 years.
A new submission, the Tenuta del Nicchio 2023 Le 2 Ville del Nicchio, a blend of Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Ciliegiolo, takes a playful and whimsical look at coastal Tuscan tradition by pairing Bordeaux varieties with an unknown indigenous grape best known for its bright, cherry-driven profile. The wine leans savory, however, showing dark fruit with hints of bacon fat and white pepper. The Ciliegiolo remains more suggestive than overt, with the international varieties taking the lead. There is a faintly exotic note that arrives from left field, and the bouquet would benefit from a touch more lift and freshness. It is partially fermented in barrique (80%) with the remainder in stainless steel.
The 2023 Le 2 Ville del Nicchio is a soft, fruity red to drink now and over the next handful of years. Sweet floral top notes lift a core of sweet red cherry fruit, mocha and blood orange. This is an especially aromatic, light-bodied style for the Tuscan Coast.
