Critical Acclaim

WE 93 Wine Enthusiast 2021 vintage

This wine tells stories. It starts with bright red berries then deepens into plums and spices, like a conversation that gets better as the night goes on. The tannins are so refined they feel like they were tailored on Savile Row. There's an energy here that makes you want to slow down and pay attention, but it's so good you keep forgetting to take notes.

JS 92 James Suckling 2021 vintage

Savory spices, dried leaves, red plums, charcoal, currants and iron on the nose. Juicy and fine-grained on the palate, with a medium body and a succulent, peppery finish. Cabernet sauvignon, merlot and carmenere. Drink now.

SP 91 Wine Spectator 2021 vintage

Bay leaf, cedar and leather aromatics lace the ripe currant and green olive flavors on display in this expressive red. Fresh and well-knit, with fine, taut tannins through the lingering, creamy finish. Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Carmenère. Drink now through 2035. 8,000 cases made, 1,200 cases imported.

RP 91 Robert Parker's Wine Advocate 2021 vintage

The 2018 Terre di San Leonardo offers bright intensity and lots of dark fruit with easy spice, fresh blackberry and subtle mineral tones. A quote on the label reads in Italian "la Terra é l'anima del nostro mestiere" (Soil is the soul of our craft). This entry-level red wine seeks to offer transparency, freshness and an authentic interpretation of a unique Italian territory.

VN 90 Vinous 2021 vintage

The 2018 Terre di San Leonardo is peppery and flora with crushed wild berries and pomegranate. This is a soft and focused expression, with an inner herbal character and tart red and black berries that cascade across its mineral core. It leaves a staining of primary concentration and hints of sour citrus, along with a coating of round tannins that frames the expression well. The 2018 has a lean and very classic San Leonardo personality. That said, it will be best enjoyed with a meal.

SP 89 Wine Spectator 2021 vintage

A fresh red, with hints of iron and loamy earth underscoring blackberry, rose hip and cigar box notes layered with crisp tannins. Spiced finish. Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Carmenère. Drink now. 8,000 cases made, 1,200 cases imported.
