Critical Acclaim
The 2022 Chardonnay mixes richness with energy and savory with sweetness, as crushed yellow apples and gingery spice combine with minty herbs and wet stone. This is soothingly round and enveloping, quite textural, with waves of ripe green melon and mineral-tinged apricots coasting across a stream of zesty acidity. The 2022 finishes youthfully tense, structured and spicy, with hints of baked pear and cardamom that resonate. While a bit backwards today, the potential here is off the charts.Vie di Romans decided to start holding back their wines longer in the cellar to allow them to develop further before release, and I think this is a perfect example of how insightful that decision was.
A seductive bouquet of honeyed florals, almond custard, lemon curds and chamomile makes the 2022 Chardonray Vie di Romans impossible to ignore. This is deeply textural, nearly oily and weighty in feel, yet still perfectly refined, with a saline mineral tinge up front that nicely balances its core of ripe orchard fruits. The 2022 cleans up beautifully, with a citrus concentration and hints of tropical melon that linger incredibly long as a bump of residual acidity maintains a lovely freshness. This is a fantastic effort.

The 2023 Chardonnay Vie di Romans is distinctly floral and herbal in the best possible way. It lifts from the glass with nuances of sage and tropical melon complemented by a whiff of sweet spice. Opulent in feel, it has stunning acidity to balance. Glycerol textures wash across the senses with ripe pit fruits as crunchy mineral tones emerge toward the close. It finishes beautifully, squeaky clean yet long, leaving a lemony concentration and peppery inner florals to linger.

A very leafy, herbal chardonnay with fresh aromas of lemon leaves, lemon peel and a touch of minerals. Medium-bodied, it shows crisp acidity, weight, a silky texture and a tight, biting finish. Drink now.
Apple peel, persimmon and grainy pear notes, plus aromas of walnut oil, white blossoms and thyme, are set on a satiny texture in this rich white, backed by tangerine-infused acidity. Fresh and mineral-driven, with stone and oyster shell accents on the finish. Distinctive. Drink now through 2033. 5,950 cases made, 400 cases imported.
Flavors of Red Delicious apple and persimmon are set in this creamy white, underscored by hints of chopped almond, lemon curd and chamomile. Medium-bodied and well-meshed, with buoyant acidity creating a mouthwatering frame that drives the minerally finish. Drink now through 2028. 400 cases made, 100 cases imported. (Alison Napjus)
