Food Pairings
Critical Acclaim
The 2021 Chardonnay Cuvée Alyce is a classic Stephen Hansel wine. It offers notable richness but also a great deal of transparency. Hansel blends two variations of Wente Clone Chardonnay (Hyde and Hudson) with some clone 76 for his Cuvée Alyce, a Chardonnay that exudes class. (Antonio Galloni)
The 2022 Chardonnay Cuvée Alyce is a blend of Hyde, Hudson and 95 clones. It is also the richest and deepest of these Chardonnays from Hansel. Burnt sugar, lemon confit, marzipan, tangerine oil and vanillin are nicely pushed forward. This is an especially understated vintage of the Alyce.

Named after his Stephen Hansel’s mom, the 2022 Chardonnay Cuvee Alyce is the top of the range for the Chardonnays and comes from the highest elevation site on the ranch. Made from the clones Hyde Wente, Huxon Wente, and Dijon 95, in the glass it displays a ripe golden yellow hue and is more focused, with ripe notes of flint, baked golden apples, lemon curd, toasted cedar, and wet stones. Full-bodied, it offers a creamy, luxuriously rounded texture, with a clean finish and a touch of hazelnut through the palate. It is another opulent wine that is going to drink at its best over the next 6-8 years. 742 cases produced.
The last of Hansel's whites, the 2023 Chardonnay Cuvee Alyce offers more clarity in the range and is lifted with notes of preserved lemon, apricot, honeycomb, and wet stones. It's full-bodied, with a weightless, silky texture and elegant notes of hazelnut coaxing through the palate. It's a very strong offering that should improve over the next few years. Drink 2025-2032.
The 2023 Chardonnay Cuvée Alyce emerges from the highest-elevation section of the vineyard and is planted with an assortment of clones, including Hyde Wente, Hudson Wente and Clone 95. Oily and textured in the glass, the Alyce offers lovely textural resonance within the context of the year. Orange confit, crème brûlée, spice and a kiss of French oak linger as the 2023 blossoms with air.
