The 2023 Riesling Elisenberger Kabinett, a monopole for the Richters, comes from a site straddling the communes of Mülheim and Veldenz on quartzite with some alluvial deposits. The family has owned it since 1813, when a Richter ancestor bribed Napoleon with 3,000 Taler to spare Mülheim. The nose offers a touch of red gooseberry and subtle smoke, while the palate holds exquisite blood orange and tangerine flavors, boosted by subtle sweetness on the light body (Anne Krebiehl MW)
