Westland Distillery Westland American Single Malt Whiskey NV 750ml

Westland’s flagship single malt is aged for two years and bottled at 92 proof. It has a topaz hue and rich caramel aroma. On the palate, it’s a bit oaky at first, but soon opens up to echo that bold caramel, plus a smoky touch of burnt orange peel on the slightly hot finish. Adding water brings out a faint almond note too.

Topaz/amber color; very good clarity. Smells keenly malty, like malted milk balls, in the first whiffs after the pour and properly dry, slightly peppery; secondary sniffs encounter a measured acceleration of the dusty dry maltiness that's intensely grainy and spiced with aeration. Entry reflects the bouquet accurately as the initial taste is acutely malty/grainy and dry, but there's also a pleasing light caramel-like sweetness that wasn't present in the aroma; midpalate accentuates the malty sweetness even more and that impression carries one into the sap-like, slightly oily aftertaste. I see enormous potential here and look forward to subsequent generations.
