Willett Distillery Willett Pot Still Reserve NV 750ml

Bottled in a glass pot still decanter. Soft and elegant on the nose and palate, and very well balanced. An incredibly drinkable whiskey. There’s no age statement on the bottle, but it was bottled at just the right time, based on its great balance of flavors. Notes of vanilla, coconut, and crème brulee provide a base for emerging notes of cedar wood shavings, cinnamon, soft mint, and a hint of fennel. A very graceful bourbon.

Old gold/Palo Cortado sherry color; unblemished purity. Intensely grainy at the first inhalation after the pour; eight more minutes in glass allows for baked banana-like aroma to emerge that goes well with the corn graininess. Entry is subdued , cornbread-like, and buttery; midpalate grows in richness as the taste profile remains creamy and buttery but now turns a touch woody/oaky/resiny as well. Ends on a medium long creamy note that's more semiswet than full-out sweet. Complex and understated

I was immediately impressed at how subtle and complex the aroma is: buttery with notes of maple syrup, pecan, vanilla and caramel. On the palate, buttered popcorn, maple and toast mingle. The pot still distillation during the doubling stage is key to getting the oiliness and velvety-smooth texture that I’m a huge fan of. It comes in one of the coolest bottles I’ve seen, and for once, the product inside is just as special as its packaging.
