Critical Acclaim

RP 91 Robert Parker's Wine Advocate 2021 vintage Apr 4, 2024

The red 2021 Xisto Ilimitado has a clean, expressive, fruit-driven nose that is quite aromatic, almost floral, attractive and elegant. Made from purchased grapes in the Pinhão zone, it was vinified with 100% full clusters in concrete and stainless steel and matured mostly in oak of different sizes for 15 months. The palate is juicy and fruit-driven, with fine and round tannins, a soft mouthfeel and a velvety texture. It has a moderate 12.5% alcohol, contained ripeness and a dry finish. There are some 70,000 bottles of this.

SP 90 Wine Spectator 2020 vintage Sep 30, 2023

A silky, medium- to full-bodied red, featuring fragrant wild herb and floral accents to the flavors of bitter cherry reduction and blackberry coulis, with a touch of coffee liqueur. Reveals chalky tannins that emerge to firm the finish. Drink now through 2028. 1,850 cases made, 1,200 cases imported. (Alison Napjus)

RP 89 Robert Parker's Wine Advocate 2021 vintage

The 2020 Xisto Ilimitado is a blend of 30% Touriga Franca, 20% Tinta Amarela and 20% Tinta Roriz, with Rufete, Tinta Barroca and others filling out the blend, all aged for 14 months in used French oak. It comes in at 13.2% alcohol. The Mono C and the Xisto Cru reds will not be made this year, so that juice went here. This was only in bottle a week when seen, but it seemed to show plenty of potential for the price category. Tight and fresh, this finishes with some tannic pop and flavor, a nice combination, but right now it is mostly tight. This will likely seem better at the end of the year or in the middle of 2023. It should be a nice bargain.
