Critical Acclaim

VN 95 Vinous 2021 vintage Nov 2022

The 2021 Malbec Concreto from Paraje Altamira, Uco Valley was aged in concrete. Purple in the glass. It has a crisp, expressive nose of fresh plum, sour cherry and hints of blackberry, herbs, violets and lavender. Free-flowing but relaxed in the mouth, the palate leaves behind a mixture of chalk and juicy freshness before the sustained, pure fruit finish. The year suited this style perfectly. (Joaquín Hidalgo)

JS 95 James Suckling 2021 vintage Tuesday, August 9, 2022

Such a brooding nose with black pepper, violet and fresh blueberry and blackberry fruit. Spicy and tight on the palate, but super polished, racy and refined. Medium-to full-bodied red with beautiful tannin tension and expressive, floral notes in the finish. Exemplary and authentic! So delicious now. Why wait?

JS 95 James Suckling 2023 vintage

Such a naked, floral malbec. Stripped down, with fresh blackberries, blueberries, violets, stone, iodine and graphite. Full-bodied and tight with fresh, succulent fruit in a deep set. Intense, flavorful and very composed. Tannins are firm, tight and gritty. Drink or hold.

RP 95 Robert Parker's Wine Advocate 2021 vintage

The 2021 Concreto Malbec has to be one of the finest vintages of this wine despite its youth and still shy personality. But there are tons of flowers, wild herbs and berries there waiting to emerge in an insinuating way, with austerity but unfurling layers and layers as the wine sits in the glass. It’s incredibly fine-boned with chalky tannins that scream limestone, full of precision and purity. For Sebastián Zuccardi, they didn’t do anything different, it’s just the character of the year. This is the wine that explains their philosophy without breaking your piggy bank. It is delicious, serious, approachable and with aging potential. What else do you want? I have sometimes confused this wine blind with one of their top bottlings. This is one of the best values around. They produced 47,000 bottles in this vintage. It was bottled in February 2022.

RP 94 Robert Parker's Wine Advocate 2022 vintage

Sourced from Altamira and Gualtallary, the 2022 Concreto Malbec opens with a fragrant, dark-fruited, balsamic and floral nose followed by an elegantly rich, precise and tensile palate. It culminates in a long, chalky and refined finish that deftly balances crystalline mineral notes, fine-grained tannins and weightless power. This is a beautiful iteration of a cuvée that routinely offers a definitive example of contemporary Uco Valley Malbec for a competitive price point.

RP 94 Robert Parker's Wine Advocate 2023 vintage

As ever, the 2023 Concreto Malbec represents the Zuccardi style and philosophy as efficiently as possible at an aggressively reasonable price point. A blend of fruit from calcareous soils in Altamira and Gualtallary, it leads with a simmering, contained bouquet of black and blue fruits, purple flowers and desert herbs, followed by a dense, oily and tensile palate. It concludes with an intense, inky yet elegant finish lifted by focused minerality and streaks of salinity.

WE 93 Wine Enthusiast 2022 vintage

This is a blend of Malbec grapes from top subregions in the Uco Valley. The wine was fermented and aged in concrete vats to showcase its texture and vibrant character. Floral and blackberry aromas blend on the nose. It features chalky tannins and floral notes on the midpalate, followed by dried herbs and enough vivacious black fruit flavors, providing balance.

SP 93 Wine Spectator 2023 vintage

An elegant, vibrant and youthful package built around violet, pineapple guava and fresh berry aromas that join the palate. Cherry, orange and slate details swell around the fresh acidity and drive the finish, with cocoa bean and orange peel details and caressing tannins. Drink now through 2036. 10,000 cases made, 6,000 cases imported.

SP 92 Wine Spectator 2021 vintage October 31, 2022

A youthful, lively and expressive red, showing floral macerated cherry and plum flavors amid toasted herb and espresso bean details. Ends with minerally tannins, which are firm yet perky, and a note of baker’s chocolate. Best after 2024. 10,000 cases made, 6,000 cases imported. (Aaron Romano)

SP 92 Wine Spectator 2022 vintage

Deeply aromatic, with blood orange and plumeria notes and a palate of spiced plum and sour cherry, plus a pleasant wave of minerally acidity chiming in and carrying the flavors on to the finish. Drink now through 2030. 10,000 cases made, 6,000 cases imported.
